I tried editing the file, but when ever I initiated a clone the hostIp was changed again to the old value. How do I recover the templates? Installed my operating system, and made the required customisations, shutdown the machine and exported an OVA template through vSphere - excellent, how easy!

I was able to resolve by editing the lastly created vm's .vmx file so that it pointed to its own .vmdk file instead of the template vmdk. I could not deploy from it. Go to locked VM folder: # cd /vmfs/volumes/DATASTORE_NAME/LOCKED_VM_NAME# cat vmware.log | grep lock One line reported this specific error: VigorSnapshotManagerConsolidateCallback: snapshotErr = Failed to lock the file (5:4008) After a brief It either does not exist, the server software is not responding, or there is a network problem." I can ping the host just fine it resolves forward and reverse.

There were three files with different extensions, .ova - OVF descriptor, written in XML, which describes the hardware requirements .mf - contains SHA1 checksums of the .OVA and .VMDK .vmdk - the So what happened?
