It gave me the mentioned error -36. I have a hard time believing they are all corrupt yet still work for other devices. In fact, I had to decommission an old Mac Mini because both the internal HDD and an add-on Lacie drive suffered this problem when trying to move *any* files. Dot_clean Error 36 Enjoy this tip?

My next computer will likely not be Windows. I know lots of Unix! The file in question is a .mts movie file. If you plan to use the external drive only with your Mac, format it as HFS+ and use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup your data.
There are several 320GB Passports so the full model number is a must. Video files that had reported the error seemed to copy over fine but some files would stop at the same place and wouldnt copy.
